![]() There were instances when the game dropped below 30 FPS, even on a device that is far above the suggested requirements. Maybe, because of this, the game seems to struggle to run at 60 FPS consistently. Nonetheless, the execution is spot-on, and you’ll be treated to vibrant colors, a great atmosphere, and lots of small details. These visuals will probably not be loved by everyone. ![]() The developers went for a hex-based grid system for mainly gameplay-related reasons. This feels like a big missed opportunity as a good story would make the game much more enjoyable and feel less repetitive. Perhaps this is something we can expect in future updates before the official release, but as of now, the game seems to focus only on gameplay. There’s some extremely basic monologue, but nothing that you can really call a story. ![]() The story still seems to be absent from the game. Every update seems to improve the game and adds new cool features, slowly turning the game into a complete, full, entertaining adventure. Burst2Flame Entertainment released their game in early access in June 2021 and has been frequently updating the game ever since. Stolen Realm had their Kickstarter project funded in November-December 2020 with an estimated delivery date of November 2021. The projects end up unable to deliver on their promises quite often but this does not seem to be the case for Stolen Realm. I'd say it's worth it at this price point, especially if you plan to play with a friend.Kickstarter games don’t really have the best reputation. there is no punishment for losing the battle, and no incentive to retry itįinal verdict then is that it's a fun, goofy game with interesting abilities and strategic combat, but it's got no story and once you've been around the map once you'll basically have no reason to continue playing. you can't change team comp without fully respeccing the character, and you can't just buy good equipment reliably, you need to find itģ. if I came back later the boss would have also scaled up and be harderĢ. ![]() You could argue that the team composition is not well suited to those fights and that I should come back later, but:ġ. This wears off with some of the later bosses, like a skeleton that summons infinite pleb mobs and you just need to survive for 10 turns with a squad that normally obliterates bosses in 1 or 2 turns, or a witch who is immune to damage and disables who requires you to kill 10 flowers while she blows up your impotent support characters. You can crank the difficulty up and make fights hard, requiring strategic use of abilities and AI manipulation to overcome the encounter. Every subclass has several viable builds, you can spec heavily into one skill tree and get OP abilities in the middle and end of that, or you can spec more broadly and pick up useful abilities from multiple trees for maximum utility.Īll skill trees have abilities that make you feel like your characters are unstoppable and OP, and that makes for fun encounters. However, for the price (currently less than £14!) this is a very enjoyable, strategic game where you can go on a powertrip with any number of team compositions. Some negative reviews are saying that there is no reason to play this game, and I think that they are honestly correct: there's no story, no permanent consequences to losing a battle or having a character die, and the economy is rigged so that the more money you earn the more expensive everything is.
